Taking in flavours of movement exploration inspired by the principles of Contact Improvisation and some somatic practices of Butoh, the workshops will entertain a shared space of tools and pathways from both practices. An essence of non-duality in resonance to movement improvisation, presence, reflection, and embodiment of specific qualities will be some of the ingredients in their variety.
Initiating from a container of shared safety, we will work together with some of the skills necessary towards expanding the capabilities of both the mind and body.
Some skills and pathways we’ll explore:
Softening the body towards landing
Shifting qualities of the mind in their transitions
States of embodiment in presence
Sharing weight in relation to momentum in self and space
We will collectively play with these pathways in creating something to be deconstructed, towards keeping the essence of improvisation alive.
Inviting both beginners and experienced practitioners to this two-day workshop in moving with Guru, Harman and Dilshan, in an interdisciplinary space of research, play and responsive bodies.

Harman was touched and moved by the practice of Contact Improvisation 6 years ago, leading him to immerse Contact Improvisation into his lifestyle. In this journey of learning and research, he indulges in other movement practices including contemporary dance floor work, somatic practices, body work etc. He is intrigued by the art of facilitating, creating and holding spaces for collaborations of various art forms with CI. Harman’s inspiration to Contact Improvisation in different aspects of life is leading him to travel to different places, spaces and cultures while sharing the practice of CI along the way.
